Hopi Tulip Vase
Native American Indian Pottery
Hopi
Tulip Vase: circa 1935

10-3/4" x 5-3/8"
#2128

Allen Hayes writes: " This impressive tall vase is an excellent example of a shape borrowed from mainstream European/American art pottery that first appeared at Hopi abound 1930, perhaps another suggestion from the Museum of Northern Arizona's Mary-Russell Colton, who worked aggressively to elevate the quality and attractiveness of Hopi crafts during the depression.  The Hopis made quite a few of these during the 1930s then made relatively few of the after the Second World War.
