Allen Hayes writes: " Garnet Pavatea
leaped the the first rank of Hopi potters in the mid-20th-century.
She made traditional Sikyatki Revival pieces on yellow clay, both in
polychrome and in black on yellow, like this ladle, a traditional Hopi
pottery form she especially liked. She also became noted for
polished redware decorated with a punctate* design created, according to
legend, with an old-style beer can opener."
