Allen Hayes writes: " In 1974, Rose
Gonzales was assured lasting prominence when she was honored along with
Maria Martinez as one of the two matriarchs from San Ildefonso Pueblo in
the Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery exhibit. Maria's fame came from
her black on black ware, while Rose's came from her superb carved ware.
This is a flawless example of the style that brought Rose her
recognition."
